About GrantCompass

GrantCompass is an independent database of Canadian business funding. It tracks more than 850 grants, loans, tax credits and other programs from federal, provincial, territorial, municipal and private funders, and helps business owners find the ones they qualify for and prepare their applications.

GrantCompass was founded by Khalid Hamadeh. We are not a government office, we do not run any of the programs we list, and we do not take a share of any funding you receive.

What GrantCompass does

Canadian business funding is spread across hundreds of programs, each with its own eligibility rules, deadlines and paperwork. GrantCompass puts them in one place and answers the question most owners actually have: which of these can my business get?

How we build and check the catalogue

Every program record is researched from the funder's own pages and, where they are published, its guidelines and application forms. We record the amount, who can apply, who cannot, what the money pays for, deadlines and intake windows, and the program's current status.

Programs change often. Records are re-checked against the funder's site, and pages that make claims about today (such as whether a program is open) are rebuilt from the catalogue rather than typed by hand. When a program's own information is unclear, we say so instead of guessing.

Found something out of date? Email [email protected] and we will check it against the source.

Data we publish openly

  • The Canadian Funding Census: aggregate statistics on Canadian business funding programs, free to cite under CC BY 4.0 (methodology).
  • Who Wins: who actually receives Canadian government business funding, built from federal and provincial proactive-disclosure records.
  • Did they get funded?: look up which companies in your city received government funding.

What GrantCompass is not

We are not affiliated with the Government of Canada or any province. You never need to pay anyone to submit an application for you; a few private awards charge their own small entry fee, and our program pages say so. Information on this site is general information, not financial, tax or legal advice. No one can guarantee that an application will be approved; the funder decides.
