GrantCompass Canada for ChatGPT and Claude

Last Updated: October 2, 2026

In short

GrantCompass Canada is a free app for AI assistants. Ask ChatGPT or Claude about funding for a Canadian business, start-up or non-profit, and the assistant can search our catalogue of 850+ current Canadian programmes (grants, wage subsidies, tax credits, loans and awards), show each programme's amount and intake status, and check the basic eligibility requirements against what you tell it. No account or sign-in is needed.

1. What you can ask

The app has three tools: search_grants (find programmes), check_eligibility (check one programme's basic requirements) and get_grant (one programme's details). The assistant chooses when to use them.

2. How to add it

ChatGPT

Open the apps directory in ChatGPT and search for GrantCompass Canada, then connect it. You can also mention it by name in a chat.

Claude

In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and search the directory for GrantCompass Canada. To add it before it appears in the directory, choose "Add custom connector" and enter this address:

https://api.grantcompass.ca/mcp

Other assistants and developer tools

Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers can connect to https://api.grantcompass.ca/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no authentication). For example, in Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http grantcompass https://api.grantcompass.ca/mcp

3. What the eligibility check covers

The check looks at basic requirements only: where the business is located, its organization type, its size (employees and revenue), how long it has operated, its industry, and whether a programme is reserved for specific founders (for example women or Indigenous entrepreneurs). Each requirement comes back as met, not met, or unknown, with the question to answer for the unknowns.

The result is a likelihood, never a guarantee. Most programmes have further specific conditions (eligible activities, cost-sharing, documentation). The app tells you how many, and each programme's page on grantcompass.ca lists them.

Intake status ("Open", "Between intakes") follows the same rule as our open-now lists. Always confirm dates with the funder before applying.

4. What it does not cover

5. Your data

The app receives only what the assistant sends for your request: your search words and any business details you shared (province, organization type, industry, size bands, years operating). It does not receive your name, email or conversation. Requests are logged without IP addresses and deleted after 3 years. Full details: Privacy Policy, section 4a. Use of the app is covered by our Terms of Service.
