How to Win
Insider tips, common pitfalls, and what successful applicants look like
Insider TipThis replaced the CNSJG and is significantly more generous for small businesses — 100% coverage on first $10K versus CNSJG's 67% cap. To maximize score, explicitly connect training to measurable productivity outcomes. Include EDIA elements — the 15% equity weighting is free points most applicants ignore. Apply in the first week of intake opening (April 1, 2026) since budgets can be committed quickly. Disability-related accommodations funded at 100% separately from your project cap.
Rejection Pitfalls 7
- Application submitted outside of active intake period
- Training already started before WIPSI approval
- Organization not registered in NS or operating less than one year
Success Profile
Nova Scotia-registered SME (under 50 employees ideal) in technology, manufacturing, skilled trades, or professional services training 3-20 employees in technical skills, digital transformation, or industry certifications. (2) Project design and feasibility — 25%. (3) Impact and sustainability (expected outcomes, long-term benefits, potential for expansion) — 25%. (4) Fostering equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) 15%. Sector associations also scored on collaboration/resource sharing — 5%. Applications are ranked; this is not first-come-first-served.
