Insider Tip

This replaced the CNSJG and is significantly more generous for small businesses — 100% coverage on first $10K versus CNSJG's 67% cap. To maximize score, explicitly connect training to measurable productivity outcomes. Include EDIA elements — the 15% equity weighting is free points most applicants ignore. Apply in the first week of intake opening (April 1, 2026) since budgets can be committed quickly. Disability-related accommodations funded at 100% separately from your project cap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about WIPSI

Free
Can sole proprietors apply?
No. Must be legally registered business, industry association, or non-profit in Nova Scotia. Sole proprietors aren't eligible as they can't register under NS Registry of Joint Stock Companies.
What's the realistic grant amount for my small business?
$10,000-$50,000. Small businesses get 100% on first $10K, then 50% on additional costs. $100K cap is for larger projects or associations.
When are decisions made after applying?
Decisions made within 30 days of intake closing (April 30, 2026). Budgets are allocated on a first-come basis, so apply early.
Why do applications get rejected?
Common reasons: training started before approval, not registered in NS, revenue from commercial activity <30%, or training by internal staff (must use third-party provider).
Can I stack this with other programs?
Yes. Compatible with ACOA BDP (different focus), Canada Training Credit (employee claim), and START Program (apprentice wages). No conflict with these.
