How to Win
Insider tips, common pitfalls, and what successful applicants look like
Insider TipBook a free digital advisor session with Prosper NWT before submitting. Advisors help you define an eligible, fundable project scope, and engaging them signals seriousness. Apply at the start of the NWT fiscal year (April) — the fund runs on a first-come, first-served basis and can exhaust its budget mid-year. Rural NWT businesses (outside Yellowknife, Fort Smith, Hay River, Inuvik) qualify for a higher funding ceiling ($15,100 vs $12,700), so location matters when stacking.
Rejection Pitfalls 5
- Budget exhausted for the fiscal year — timing is the most common barrier
- Business not registered in the NWT or not yet 3 months old
- Business is not consumer-facing (e.g., pure B2B wholesalers or online-only businesses based elsewhere)
Success Profile
A small NWT for-profit business with direct consumer sales (retail, tourism, hospitality, trades, services) that has been operating for at least 3 months, has one or more employees or $10K+ revenue, and has a clearly defined digital upgrade project — e.g., building an e-commerce store, launching online booking, or setting up digital payments. Rural businesses outside major hubs have access to the highest funding tier.
Evaluation Criteria
Eligibility-based (not scored). Applications are reviewed to confirm: NWT business registration, minimum revenue ($10K) or one employee, consumer-facing business model, and that the proposed project falls within eligible categories. Approved on first-come, first-served basis until budget exhausted.
