Program Description

Alberta's provincial farm lender offers fixed-rate term loans and revolving credit to primary agricultural producers and to agribusinesses such as food processors. Products include the Next Generation Loan for new, young and returning producers, the Developing Producer and Alberta Producer Loans, a Revolving Loan for working capital, and the Agribusiness Loan for businesses that process or package agricultural inputs. AFSC's borrower lending limit is $30 million.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Farm loans (Next Generation, Developing Producer, Alberta Producer, Revolving): primary agricultural producers operating in Alberta
  • Agribusiness Loan: Alberta food processors, agribusinesses, agricultural suppliers, manufacturers and rural utilities directly engaged in the physical transformation, processing or packaging of an agricultural input into a higher-value finished product
  • Revolving and Agribusiness Loans: individuals who are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, and companies incorporated in Canada and registered to operate a business in Alberta
  • Farm loans: non-corporate applicants provide a birth certificate, proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
  • Next Generation Loan: under 40 at the time of application, or over 40 with less than three years of farming history and farm income under $10,000 for three of the last five years
  • Next Generation Loan: in joint applications 20 per cent of members, and in corporate applications 20 per cent of ownership, must be Next Generation borrowers
  • All loans are subject to AFSC's lending assessment (three years of financial statements or income tax history are required)
