Program Description

NRC IRAP supports Canadian SMEs in international Eureka Network R&D consortia with up to 50% reimbursement of eligible costs, capped at $500,000 CAD. Requires a multi-stage application: registration, expression of interest, and full consortium proposal.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Incorporated, profit-oriented Canadian SME
  • 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees
  • At least 12 months in operation before the project proposal deadline
  • At least 5 full-time equivalent employees located in Canada on payroll with T4 by the Canadian registration deadline
  • Consortium must include at least two independent legal entities from at least two Eureka Call participating countries
  • Project must be civilian and aimed at commercialising an innovative product, process, or service

How much can a Canadian company receive?
Eligible Canadian SMEs may receive up to 50% reimbursement of eligible project costs, to a maximum total of 500,000 Canadian dollars, over 12 to 36 months. The funding is a non repayable contribution against approved work completed and invoiced.
What are the deadlines?
Registration with NRC IRAP closes 15 September 2026 and the Expression of Interest closes 29 September 2026, both for Canadian applicants only. The full consortium submission is due 7 January 2027 at 23:59 CEST, 17:59 EDT Ottawa.
Do I need an international partner?
Yes. The consortium must include at least two independent legal entities from a minimum of two Eureka call participating countries, and the parties must be unrelated with no ownership interest between them. Organisations from non participating countries can join if their funding is secured by the call deadline.
How small can my company be?
You need at least 5 full time equivalent employees in Canada on your payroll and issued a T4, excluding contract employees, by the registration deadline, and at least 12 months of operation. Preference may be given to applicants with at least 15 such employees, prior international commercialisation, or more than $500,000 in annual sales revenue, and if you miss one of those a strong rationale can be provided in the Expression of Interest.
Do I have to be an existing IRAP client?
You must be eligible for funding as an NRC IRAP client before you can be considered for this call. NRC IRAP can be reached at 1-877-994-4727 to discuss eligibility and becoming a client.
When would the project actually start?
National funding procedures run February to March 2027 and projects are expected to begin June to July 2027.
