Program Description
A national pitch competition awarding a total of $45,000 to Canadian entrepreneurs across success-story, start-up, and student categories. Open to founders and co-founders of legally registered, Canada-headquartered businesses, with separate categories for start-ups and students.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a legal resident of Canada and have reached the age of majority in your province or territory.
- Be a founder or co-founder of a business legally registered and headquartered in Canada, with all operations complying with applicable Canadian federal, provincial and municipal laws, licences and regulations.
- Hold an ownership interest of 51% or more and a leadership position in the business (except in the Promising Student Entrepreneur category, where a founder or co-founder qualifies regardless of ownership percentage).
- The business must be active and in good standing, with no ongoing legal, regulatory or tax disputes, and hold all required licences, permits and authorizations (except in the student category).
- The business must have commenced operations — more than an idea or concept (except in the student category, where a concept-stage venture is eligible and need not be registered).
- The business must not be a subsidiary of a large corporation or a franchise of an established brand.
- You must have the unencumbered authority to participate on behalf of the business and to legally bind it to the Terms.
- Not be an employee, representative, agent, officer or director of CIBC or WEKH, their affiliates or any party involved in running the Program — nor be domiciled with any such person, related or not.
- Start-Up of the Year: the business must have been in active operation for less than two years as of August 31, 2026.
- Promising Student Entrepreneur of the Year: the applicant must be currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian college or university.
- Most Popular Vote: open to all finalists in the three main categories; winners of those categories are not eligible to also win it.
- One application per eligible business, and one application per individual regardless of how many businesses they are associated with.
- Applications must be created without any use of artificial intelligence tools — AI-assisted applications are disqualified.
- Having an account or other relationship with CIBC is not required and does not affect your chances.

No. It is hosted through CIBC's Women Entrepreneurs Hub and run with WEKH, but WEKH states the competition "is open to Canadian entrepreneurs across all industries and backgrounds." There is no gender eligibility requirement in the Terms.

Can I use AI to help write my application?
No — it is strictly prohibited and grounds for disqualification. CIBC and WEKH reserve the right to investigate any application suspected of containing AI-generated content.
Is the pitch event in person?
No. The live pitch event is virtual, with judges attending on-site at CIBC Square in Toronto. Finalists participate remotely with a three-to-five-minute pitch and a ten-to-fifteen-minute Q&A.
