Program Description

Provides non-dilutive Google Cloud, Firebase, and Gemini credits to early-stage startups, with up to $2,000 for unfunded founders, up to $200,000 for Seed/Series A companies, and up to $350,000 for AI-first startups.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Start tier: technology startup with a working MVP, a clear business model, and plans to seek venture funding soon; founded within the last 24 months; not yet received Google Cloud credits beyond the free trial
  • Start tier: must demonstrate a well-defined product roadmap and a clear vision for market disruption
  • Scale tier: raised a Pre-Seed/Seed round within the last 5 years, or a Series A round within the last 12 months; founded within the last five years; not yet received more than $5,000 in Google Cloud credits
  • Stealth-mode operation is supported for the Scale tier upon verification of funding
  • Available globally where Google Cloud operates (Canada qualifies)
  • Credits are in-kind Google Cloud consumption, not cash
  • Qualifying investment for the Scale tier means equity investment vehicles from institutional investors and venture capital firms; SAFE agreements are eligible, and verifiable token raises and blockchain foundation grants are accepted
  • Funding from private equity, GOVERNMENT INNOVATION GRANTS, prize funding, crowdfunding, angel investors, or friends and family does NOT qualify a startup for the Scale tier — those companies are evaluated for the Start tier instead
  • AI tier: requires being an AI-first startup, with AI built into the startup's foundational structure and strategy rather than as a productivity or bolt-on layer
  • Acceptance into the program is at the discretion of Google Cloud, and applications are reviewed case by case
  • You need an 18-character Google Cloud billing account ID to apply
  • The business email used in the application must match your startup's public website domain AND the email domain associated with your billing account, or credits cannot be approved
  • Google Workspace perk only: your company domain must not have been subscribed to a paid Google Workspace plan within 31 days of applying, through to the day the benefit is requested

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about Google for Startups Cloud Program

Free
We have a government innovation grant — does that count as funding?
Not for the Scale tier. Google states that private equity, government innovation grants, prize funding, crowdfunding, angel, and friends-and-family funding will not qualify a startup for Scale, though the company may still be evaluated for the Start tier. Only equity investment from institutional investors and VC firms qualifies, and SAFE agreements are eligible.
How do the $200,000 and $350,000 figures actually arrive?
Over two years, not up front. Year 1 covers 100% up to $100,000 USD in Google Cloud credits, or up to $250,000 USD for AI-first startups. Year 2 drops to 20% up to an additional $100,000 USD.
What do I need before I apply?
Your 18-character Google Cloud billing account ID, and a business email whose domain matches your startup's public website. Google is explicit that the company website domain must match your email domain and the email domain on your billing account, or credits cannot be approved.
How do I prove our funding?
With links to publicly available online sources detailing the equity investments in your company — not a pitch deck. If you are in stealth mode, work with your investor to verify the funding; stealth operation is supported for the Scale tier.
Can the credits pay for Google Workspace, Maps or Ads?
No. The credits are for Google Cloud services such as BigQuery and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, and cannot be applied to third-party services or anything on Google Cloud Marketplace. Workspace and Maps benefits come separately where you qualify, with details in the program welcome email.
