Federal funding to establish, expand, or modernize shared-use energy-technology testing, validation, certification, or prototyping facilities in Canada. Continuous rolling intake.

- Legal entities validly incorporated or registered in Canada, including for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, Canadian academic institutions, utilities, and government agencies
- Indigenous communities/governments, tribal councils, national or regional Indigenous councils, tribal organizations, and Indigenous majority-owned for-profit or not-for-profit organizations
- Project must establish, expand, or modernize a shared-use energy-technology testing, validation, certification, or prototyping facility in Canada
- Confirmed location in Canada for a new facility or upgrade to an existing facility
- Credible pathway to long-term operational sustainability without ongoing government support
- Funding requests of $1 million to $10 million, up to 50% of eligible total project cost (100% for Indigenous applicants)

Concept and pre-development work (market analysis, feasibility, demand assessment, site identification) is not funded and should be finished before you apply. You must be at least 'development ready': site and facility requirements confirmed, partnerships and co-funding commitments secured, procurement plan defined, regulatory requirements identified.

How much can a project receive?
Between $1,000,000 and $10,000,000, covering up to 50% of eligible total project cost, or up to 100% for Indigenous applicants, over a project of up to five years.
Do I have to pay the money back?
No. Contributions under the programme are non-repayable.
When is the deadline?
There is currently no fixed closing date. The call uses continuous intake and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until all available programme funding is allocated, though NRCan notes that when a submission is received can affect the order of priority for review.
When does the money become available?
Funding is available beginning on April 1, 2027.
Can the facility be for our own use?
No. The governance or operating model must let energy innovators beyond the founding organization and its core affiliates access the services, either through a commercially available service open to external clients or a multi-stakeholder governance structure that can add new members over time. Facilities built exclusively for internal use do not qualify.
Can I stack this with other government funding?
Yes, up to a maximum government stacking percentage of 100% of total project cost. You must disclose all anticipated funding sources before signing, and if actual government assistance exceeds the limit NRCan will reduce its contribution and may seek reimbursement.
