NRCan Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative (DRAI)

The NRCan Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative (DRAI) provides funding to organizations undertaking projects that reduce barriers to deep energy retrofits in commercial, institutional, and mid/high-rise residential buildings across Canada. The program operated in two streams: Stream 1 (Demonstration Projects — large-scale retrofit deployments) and Stream 2 (Capacity Building Activities — knowledge development, tools, and training). Both streams provided $500,000–$2,000,000 per project to eligible non-profits, energy service companies, industry associations, and other organizations. Both Stream 1 and Stream 2 application windows are now closed, with a total program envelope of approximately $185.5 million available until March 31, 2027. Active projects are in delivery; new applicants cannot enter at this stage.
