Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about WorkingNB Labour Force Training

Free
Can sole proprietors apply?
Yes, sole proprietors are eligible if established in New Brunswick. Must provide business registration and proof of NB establishment (e.g., business license). An owner/operator can also be an eligible training participant where the training meets the program criteria.
What's the typical award amount?
Most employers receive $5,000-$15,000 per fiscal year against a cap of $20,000 per employer, per region, per fiscal year. Level 1 (50% reimbursement) is standard for eligible training.
Can I run the training in-house?
No. The training provider must be separate and distinct from your business or organization, so training delivered by your own staff cannot be reimbursed.
When are decisions made?
Continuous intake with decisions made within 30 days of application submission. Apply early (April-June) to secure regional budget availability.
Why do applications fail?
Most fail because training already started (apply before training begins), the application totals $1,000 or less, the training is a re-certification rather than an initial certification, or it is delivered in-house. Duplicate funding claims are also rejected.
Can I stack with other grants?
Yes, stackable with ACOA (different costs), Canada Training Credit (employee-level), and NRC-IRAP (separate activities). Cannot double-reimburse same costs.
