How to Win
Insider tips, common pitfalls, and what successful applicants look like
Insider TipContact BBI at info@bbi. ns.ca before the intake opens to confirm your consultant and project scope qualify. BBI advisors respond within 2–3 business days and can help frame your application. Apply on day one — intake closes as soon as the budget runs out, often weeks before the September 20 deadline.
Rejection Pitfalls 5
- Business does not meet the 33%+ Black ownership threshold
- Business is located outside the four Atlantic provinces
- Business has been operating for fewer than 6 months
Success Profile
A Black-owned Atlantic Canadian business (33%+ ownership) that has operated for at least 6 months and has identified a specific gap — marketing strategy, financial management, digital transformation, or operational planning — where an external consultant's expertise will deliver measurable improvement.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis once the intake opens. BBI assesses whether the business meets the ownership threshold (33%+ Black-owned), operating history (6+ months), and whether the stated consulting need is genuine and clearly articulated. No competitive scoring — eligible applications are funded until the budget is exhausted.
