Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about EDC Portfolio Credit Insurance

Free
What does the policy actually pay if a customer does not pay me?
Up to 90% of the value of your insured invoice, if your customer declares bankruptcy, defaults on payment, refuses to accept the goods, terminates the contract before you ship in some cases, cannot pay because of hostilities in their market, or where export or import permits are cancelled or there are problems converting or transferring currency.
What is not covered?
You will not be covered if the loss relates to goods shipped when your customer was already in default of their payment obligation, or while your customer is disputing the amount they owe, which EDC can only pay once the dispute is settled and the amount owing is clearly established. A complete list of exclusions is set out in the policy.
Do I have to insure all of my customers?
No. Portfolio Credit Insurance is designed to be flexible, so you can cover all sales to your customers or just a portion of them, and you can insure an unlimited number of international customers.
How is this different from Select Credit Insurance?
Select covers individual buyers or transactions, typically invoices of $5,000 to $500,000, and is the first step toward a portfolio policy. Portfolio provides ongoing coverage for consistent, high-volume export sales across multiple buyers and markets under a single policy, for higher-value receivables typically above $500,000.
Can I cover my domestic sales too?
Yes. When purchasing Portfolio Credit Insurance you have the option of covering your domestic sales through EDC's partnership with another insurer.
How is the premium set?
Pricing is generally volume-based, adjusted for your overall risk profile, sales volume, buyer distribution and payment terms.
