What this program funds and who can apply
Program Description
Innovate BC grants covering up to 40% of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $500,000, for B.C.-based small and medium-sized enterprises piloting a technology at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or higher with a B.C. early adopter. The second intake (2026-27) is open until October 30, 2026 at 11:59 pm PST, with $2 million available. Part of Innovate BC's Integrated Marketplace, it funds real-world demonstrations in health, aviation, marine and ports, forestry and emergency management, mining and critical minerals, and defence and dual-use technology.
Eligibility Requirements
- For-profit company incorporated in British Columbia and in good standing
- Fewer than 500 employees
- Operates primarily in B.C. with an active business presence (office, staff, or operations)
- Has the financial, technical and managerial capacity to fund and deliver the project, and can enter into Innovate BC's standard contribution agreement
- Technology at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or higher, and the project must aim to advance it by at least one TRL
- At least one confirmed early adopter partner that will host, test or evaluate the solution under real-world conditions in B.C., with a signed LOI, MOU or equivalent
- Project must be based and carried out in B.C. and align with at least one call theme: health, aviation, marine and coastal, forestry innovation and emergency management, mining and critical minerals, or defence and dual-use technologies
- Applicants and partners must cover the remaining 60% or more of project costs in cash or in kind; at least 25% of total project costs must come from non-government sources
- Previous participants may apply with the same or an evolved technology, but only for a new and distinct use case
