MiHR — Green Jobs Program (Mining Clean Tech Youth Placements)

Program Description

Wage subsidy up to $24,000 per placement (or $30,000 for priority youth) for employers whose work delivers environmental benefit through clean technology in the mining and minerals sector. Youth participants must be aged 15–30. Delivered by MiHR through NRCan's Science and Technology Internship Program (STIP) — Green Jobs.

Eligibility Requirements

• MiHR-approved hiring organizations whose operations produce positive environmental outcomes through clean technology in mining/minerals
• Youth participant must be aged 15–30 years old at time of hire
• Placements up to 12 months focused on clean technology and innovation in the mining/minerals sector
• Job description must articulate the specific environmental impact/benefit of the role
• Participants cannot be former employees of the hiring organization
• Separate application required for each placement position
• Apply through MiHR portal at portal.mihr.ca before hiring decision
• Participant must have been unemployed, underemployed or a student immediately before the placement starts
• Participant must not be enrolled in school full-time during the placement (part-time study is eligible)
• Placement must be full-time — at least 30 hours per week; rotational (fly-in-fly-out) jobs qualify if the average weekly hours are at least 30
• Organization must be Canadian-owned or a Canadian subsidiary
• Organization must be one of: a not-for-profit (incl. voluntary organizations and foundations); a for-profit organization; an Indigenous organization (incl. band councils, tribal councils, self-government entities); a provincial, territorial, regional or municipal government (incl. departments, agencies, institutions and Crown corporations); or a public health, educational or cultural organization
• Employer must have an established payroll system, a well-developed training plan, and a process for supervising and mentoring participants
