Program Description
Canadian Heritage supports not-for-profits and Indigenous groups across Canada through grants and contributions for anti-racism projects, multiculturalism events, and organizational capacity building.
Eligibility Requirements
- Canadian not-for-profit organizations, associations and unincorporated groups
- Indigenous not-for-profit organizations (First Nations, Inuit and Metis)
- Indigenous governments, band councils and tribal councils
- Canadian incorporated and unincorporated municipalities and townships with a population of up to 10,000 (Events component only — the Organizational Capacity Building component does not list municipalities as eligible)
- Organizations and individuals that adopt racist, antisemitic or other hateful content are not eligible
- Incorporation is NOT required — unincorporated groups are eligible, but must supply articles of association or Terms of Reference and a signed Unincorporated Applicant Acceptance of Liability form
- Events must establish concrete opportunities for positive interaction among cultural, religious or ethnocultural communities
- Events must demonstrate involvement of more than one cultural, religious or ethnocultural community, or target a single cultural community and provide opportunities to engage with and foster pride in that community's history, culture and/or identity, such as heritage months recognized by Parliament
- Events must help foster intercultural or interfaith understanding, and must be open to and intended for the general public
- Events primarily of a religious, political, commercial or private nature are not eligible
- The same activities cannot be funded twice — activities funded under the Projects component or under other Canadian Heritage funding programs cannot receive Events funding for the same activities
- Multi-year Events funding additionally requires that you successfully organized a prior edition of the proposed event within the past two years that met all Events eligibility requirements, and that the request is for a recurring event taking place once per year over two fiscal years
- Only one Organizational Capacity Building application may be submitted per organization per call for proposals
- The Projects / Anti-Racism Call is a SOLICITED process — applications are accepted only through invitation
- MARP is highly competitive: Canadian Heritage states requests for funding typically exceed available resources, and that submitting an application does not guarantee funding even if your organization is eligible

Can a for-profit business apply?
No. The eligible-applicant list is closed: Canadian not-for-profit organizations, associations and unincorporated groups; Indigenous not-for-profit organizations, governments, band councils and tribal councils; and, for Events only, municipalities and townships with a population of up to 10,000.
Does my group have to be incorporated?
No — unincorporated groups are explicitly eligible. You will need to supply your articles of association or Terms of Reference and a signed Unincorporated Applicant Acceptance of Liability form instead of the incorporation documents.
How much can one event receive?
Up to $100,000 per event per fiscal year. A recurring event can be funded across two fiscal years for a maximum of $200,000 in total, but never more than $100,000 in either year, and only if you ran a prior edition within the past two years that met all eligibility requirements.
How do I apply if the funding portal is down?
By email. Canadian Heritage states the Funding Portal for the Events component is currently unavailable, and asks you to contact your regional office for a copy of the Application Form and Budget Form, then submit the signed package as email attachments — links to Dropbox, Google Drive and similar are not accepted.
Which component is actually open right now?
The Projects / Anti-Racism Call, a solicited process running July 3 to September 8, 2026. All three 2026-2027 Events intake windows have closed (the last ran April 29 to June 10, 2026) and Canadian Heritage has not published the next ones; Organizational Capacity Building is also closed.
