Program Description

A one-time Northern B.C. rebate of up to $200,000, covering at most 75% of eligible project costs, for businesses making capital investments to diversify, reach new markets, add products or services, or raise productivity in response to U.S. tariff impacts, while sustaining or creating jobs. Open to established small and medium-sized businesses, First Nation businesses and development corporations, community contribution companies and certain job-creating not-for-profits in eligible industries within the NDIT region. Applications close October 15, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. and no second intake is expected.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Located or headquartered in the Northern Development Initiative Trust region, with a major facility and key decision makers there
  • Eligible applicants: privately owned small and medium-sized businesses (incorporated businesses or sole proprietorships in business two or more years with more than $30,000 in annual revenue), First Nation businesses in eligible industries, First Nation development corporations, community contribution companies, and not-for-profits whose sole purpose is creating jobs and economic benefit in their industry (for example community forests)
  • Fewer than 500 employees and annual revenues under $100 million; not publicly traded; start-ups without revenue are ineligible
  • Operating in an eligible industry: agriculture, aquaculture, distribution, energy, forestry, industrial supply chain (services and suppliers), innovation/technology, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, or transportation
  • The project must address a specific tariff-related impact on the business and sustain or create jobs, and the applicant must show why the diversification is needed because of tariff-related labour market challenges or opportunities
  • Municipalities, regional districts and First Nation bands are not eligible
