Program Description

A New Brunswick cost-share program for fruit and mixed vegetable producers who want to increase production. It pays 40% of eligible costs under four elements: season extension and controlled environment agriculture (greenhouses, tunnels, hydroponics), post-harvest cooling, freezing and on-farm storage, scaling-up equipment, and commercial field irrigation. The yearly maximum depends on the farm's gross farm revenue and runs from $5,000 to $100,000. New entrants aiming at commercial-scale production can apply. For 2026-2027, applications are evaluated as they are received until funding is exhausted and must be received no later than February 1, 2027.

Eligibility Requirements

  • New Brunswick producers of fruits and mixed vegetables, including new entrants, that supply New Brunswick consumers with commodities that do not meet the province's self-sufficiency status
  • Producers of commodities in which New Brunswick is currently self-sufficient may be considered only if the project expands New Brunswick consumers' access to locally grown fruit and vegetables
  • New entrants whose ultimate goal is commercial-scale production are eligible
  • Activities must be carried out within the province of New Brunswick
  • New entrants or applicants with limited experience must submit an up-to-date formal business plan or an up-to-date program questionnaire with their application
  • Applicants must provide their gross farming income: Line 9659 from the T2042 Statement of Farming Activities, or Line 9659 from Schedule 125 of the T2 Corporation Income Tax Return
  • The applicant must be eligible under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership; under New Brunswick's administrative guidelines, funding is only available where the applicant is a New Brunswick resident at least 19 years of age, the project location is within New Brunswick, or the project benefits New Brunswick
  • Costs incurred before April 1, 2026 are not eligible; costs incurred before the project is approved are not eligible unless indicated in the letter of offer
  • Projects must be completed before March 31, 2027
