Program Description

A New Brunswick program, under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, that pays producers to put ecological goods and services practices on their land. It funds reduced tillage, ponds, wetland restoration, pollinator habitat, conversion of marginal and high-risk annual cropland, riparian buffers, shelterbelts, species at risk support, strip planting for erosion control, enhanced riparian grazing management and increasing legumes in pastures and hay fields. Rates are set per element, from 50% of equipment costs for reduced tillage up to 100% of establishment costs for several land practices, and the program leans on acreage-based payments with multi-year agreements for some activities. Maximum assistance is $100,000 for an individual business and $150,000 for an agricultural producer association over the life of the program. Only agricultural producers, producer associations and Indigenous Peoples or organizations involved in primary agricultural production in New Brunswick can apply, and a valid Environmental Farm Plan certificate issued within the last five years is required. A pre-approval form must be submitted before the official application, and pre-approvals are handled first come, first served until funding is exhausted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about New Brunswick Resilient Agricultural…

Free
Who can apply to New Brunswick's Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program?
Agricultural producers in primary agricultural production in New Brunswick, including individuals, partnerships and incorporated agri-businesses; Indigenous Peoples or Indigenous Organizations in primary agricultural production; agricultural producer associations such as Registered Community Pasture Associations; and, case by case, a delivery agent acting for eligible producers. A valid Environmental Farm Plan certificate issued within the last five years is required.
How much funding is available?
Maximum assistance is $100,000 for an individual business and $150,000 for an agricultural producer association over the life of the program. Rates are set per element: 50% to a maximum of $30,000 for reduced tillage equipment, 75% to $30,000 for ponds, up to 100% to $30,000 for wetlands, and per-acre establishment payments of up to $200, $400, $600 or $1,500 an acre for the land practices, with annual per-acre payments on top.
Is there a deadline?
No closing date. The pre-approval form intake period runs from April 1, 2024 until funding is exhausted, and pre-approval applications are considered first come, first served. Claims for an approved project are due February 28 within the fiscal year it was approved for.
What practices does it cover?
Three categories: reduced tillage; ponds and wetlands; and pollinator habitat, critical and marginal landscapes, trees, riparian areas and crop management, which covers conversion of marginal and high-risk annual cropland, riparian buffers, shelterbelts, species at risk support, strip planting for erosion control, enhanced riparian area grazing management, and increasing legumes in existing pastures or hay fields.
Is this the same as the Saskatchewan Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program?
No. The Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program is delivered separately by each province under Sustainable CAP, so the elements, rates, caps and eligibility requirements differ. New Brunswick requires a valid Environmental Farm Plan certificate issued within the last five years and caps assistance at $100,000 per individual business over the life of the program.
Can I be paid for work I have already done?
No. Costs incurred before the project is approved are not eligible unless the Letter of Offer says otherwise, and no payment is made for claims under $200.
