Program Description

Non-repayable PrairiesCan funding for Prairie not-for-profit accelerators, incubators, and business-support organizations that build regional innovation ecosystem capacity across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Projects must deliver programming to businesses and entrepreneurs in the Prairie provinces, with an emphasis on activities that support underrepresented groups including women, Indigenous peoples, and young entrepreneurs. Funding covers up to 50% of admissible project expenses.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Not-for-profit organization operating in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba
  • Must deliver business-support programming: acceleration, incubation, mentorship, networking, access-to-capital facilitation, or other innovation ecosystem activities
  • For-profit companies are not eligible under this stream (apply to PrairiesCan's REGI Business Scale-up & Productivity stream instead)

2 Develop project proposal and performance framework Prepare a detailed proposal: project rationale, activities, timeline, measurable ecosystem outcomes, and budget. Secure letters of support from key partners. Confirm matching funding sources.
3 Submit formal application Submit the complete application package to PrairiesCan including: proposal, legal documents, financial statements, budget, and letters of support.
4 PrairiesCan review and due diligence PrairiesCan assesses eligibility and project merit. May request additional information or clarification.
5 Contribution agreement negotiation and signing Approved projects receive a conditional approval. Negotiate contribution agreement covering milestones, eligible expenses, reporting, and disbursement schedule. Sign the agreement to activate funding.
