Program Description
PrairiesCan's delivery of the federal Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative — this record covers the Prairie stream only (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba); other Regional Development Agencies run their own RAII streams with their own intakes. Supports AI commercialization and integration across priority sectors. For businesses, funding is interest-free REPAYABLE contributions covering up to 50% of eligible costs — the full amount must be repaid. Not-for-profit organizations apply under the separate RAII not-for-profit stream, where contributions are non-repayable and cover up to 90%. Part of a $200M national initiative through Budget 2024.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be incorporated and have been operating for at least 2 years (for-profit stream requirement)
- Technology or solution must have a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 7 or higher (TRL 7-9); basic and applied R&D at TRL 1-6 is ineligible
- Must submit an Expression of Interest before applying
- For-profit businesses receive interest-free repayable contributions (up to 50% of costs)
- Not-for-profit organizations apply under the separate RAII not-for-profit non-repayable stream (up to 90% of costs), which has no incorporation, operating-history or employee-count test
- Project must involve AI commercialization or integration and have a focus in at least one of the eight RAII priority areas: advanced manufacturing, clean resources, clean technology, digital industries, health/bio-sciences, natural-resources value-added processing, value-added agriculture, or inclusiveness (supporting under-represented groups such as Indigenous peoples, women and youth aged 15–34)
