What this program funds and who can apply
Program Description
Wage subsidy of up to 80% of intern wages (max $25,000 per intern) for employers in natural resources sector hiring youth aged 15-30. Covers 12-month internships in energy, forestry, mining, earth sciences, and clean technology. Apply through NRCan-accredited Delivery Organizations.
Eligibility Requirements
- Employer in natural resources sector (energy, forestry, mining, earth sciences, clean-tech)
- Must offer full-time (30+ hrs/wk) employment for youth aged 15-30
- Up to 12-month internship
- For-profit, non-profit, Indigenous organizations, governments eligible
- Must hire and mentor the intern
- Youth must be eligible to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status); some Delivery Organizations set additional age/enrollment conditions (e.g., Student Energy requires 18+, MiHR and Clean Foundation restrict full-time students).
- Several Delivery Organizations (MiHR, ECO Canada, Indigenous Clean Energy) require the hire to be new to the organization/role, not a current or former employee — check your chosen Delivery Organization's own rules. This is guidance, not a universal eligibility gate.
