Program Description
SEED offers a guaranteed interest-free loan of up to $3,000 to New Brunswick students who start a summer business that operates full-time for at least six weeks between April 1 and Labour Day. Up to one-third of the loan may be reimbursed if it is repaid in full by October 15. The program is currently between annual intakes after the June 30 deadline.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must have been a full-time student in the previous academic year and be returning to full-time studies in the fall
- Must be 16 or older with a social insurance number. Applicants under 18 need the signature of a guarantor acceptable to CBDC Restigouche
- Must have established New Brunswick residency or lived in the province during the last six months, and be returning to full-time studies in New Brunswick in the fall. Long-term New Brunswick residents remain eligible even if studying outside the province
- The business must operate in New Brunswick
- The business must operate full time, a minimum of 30 hours per week, for at least 6 weeks between April 1st and Labour Day Weekend, and must create at least one summer job for the applicant to work in
- An applicant may have only one Student Entrepreneurship loan outstanding at any time during a fiscal year, either as a sole proprietor or as a partner
- International students with a temporary off-campus work visa or permit and a 900-series social insurance number are eligible, and must present a copy of the visa or permit before evaluation begins
- In a partnership the students have equal share in ownership, each partner must complete a separate information form, and the partnership is still limited to one loan of $3,000
- A business operating on family-owned premises must demonstrate independence from the family-owned operation. An agricultural business, such as raising livestock or cash crops, must demonstrate a significant measure of independence from the farm it operates on
