Program Description
An on-farm cost-share incentive program for British Columbia primary production farms and ranches to address risks from Environmental Farm Plans or extreme weather events; per-farm lifetime cap is $100,000 through March 31, 2028, with most 2026/27 categories already closed.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a BC primary production farm or ranch.
- Must have a valid Environmental Farm Plan, unless applying under Extreme Weather Preparedness.
- Must be a BC registered business entity, including sole proprietor, partnership, corporation, cooperative, Indigenous economic development corporation, or band-owned business.
- Must have Premises ID if raising livestock and/or poultry.
- Must have a GST and CRA business number.
- Main farmstead must be in BC and file farm income tax in BC.
- Per-farm lifetime cap is $100,000 from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2028.
- Most 2026/27 categories closed in March/April 2026; Extreme Weather Plans & Assessments remains open until August 31, 2026 at 4pm PT.

Is anything still open right now?
Yes, one category. Extreme Weather: Plans & Assessments accepts applications until August 31, 2026 at 4pm PT, and can fund a FireSmart BC Farm & Ranch Assessment or a Fill Pad Plan/Design. All other 2026/27 categories closed between March 4 and May 22, 2026.
How much of the cost does BMP pay?
It depends on the category. Basic Plans 100%, Complex Plans and Designs and Biogas Feasibility Studies 80%, Extreme Weather Plans and Assessments 80 to 100%, Riparian & Grazing 60%, Biodiversity, Nutrient & Waste Management, Soil Carbon and Water Infrastructure 50%, Extreme Weather Preparedness 40%, and Energy & Fuel Efficiency 30% unless otherwise specified.
Is there a limit on total funding per farm?
Yes. Each farm can receive up to $100,000 in total under BMP during the Sustainable CAP period from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2028, across all categories. Funding approved in 2025/26, including Extreme Weather Preparedness, counts toward it.
Do I need an Environmental Farm Plan?
Yes for every category except Extreme Weather Preparedness and its associated plans and designs. The EFP must be less than 5 years old and reflect the current operation.
Are retroactive costs eligible?
No. Retroactive costs will not be considered. All projects must receive IAF approval before starting activities or incurring any project costs, and receipts or invoices dated before project approval will be declined.
Can I combine this with other government funding?
Yes. Stacking funds from other government programs is permitted so long as the funding received from all government sources does not exceed 100% of project costs.
