Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about Creative BC Book Publishers Market Fund

Free
Do individual authors qualify?
No — only book publishers qualify, not individual authors, agents, or distributors. The publisher must be the primary beneficiary of the funded activities.
Do I need Books BC membership?
Not necessarily. You qualify as an active (voting or associate) member of Books BC, or as a publishing company that received funding from the Canada Book Fund, the BC Arts Council Operating Assistance Program for Book Publishers, or BC Arts Council Project Assistance for Book Publishers in the most recently completed fiscal year.
Are travel costs covered?
Yes. Eligible travel expenses include a per diem of $60 CAD per day in Canada and $80 CAD per day outside Canada, accommodation up to $350 CAD per night, return economy airfare, ground transportation, registration fees, booth costs, and shipping of books and collateral.
Do I have to attend an event to get funding?
No. Marketing is a standalone activity — you can put the whole award toward a marketing plan or campaign (website redesign, backlist digitization, social and influencer marketing, SEO of titles, digital rights management), with no link to any book fair.
Can I apply for multiple events in one fiscal year?
Yes — up to $10,000 total per fiscal year across all activities, and up to six fairs or events, with a maximum of two delegates supported per event. Apply for the full year's events early in the April-March cycle before funds exhaust.
