Insider tips, common pitfalls, and what successful applicants look like

Premium
Insider Tip

Contact Creative BC Domestic Programs team or a Creative BC advisor before applying to discuss whether your company and slate qualify. Creative BC explicitly requires a 'significant track record' — emerging producers who haven't yet produced a completed BC-owned project should apply to the Project Development Fund instead.

Premium See what trips up most applicants for this program — and how to avoid it.

Success Profile

An established Vancouver production company with 3+ produced BC-owned credits applying to develop a slate of two limited series and one feature, with an experienced showrunner attached to one project and option agreements in place.

Evaluation Criteria

Evaluated on: company track record (must have produced and owned BC-distributed scripted credits — hard gating criterion), slate quality and commercial viability, company growth plan specificity, diversity/inclusion/gender parity commitments, commitment to BC talent, and distribution strategy credibility. Panel looks for companies building long-term IP capacity, not just individual projects.
