What this program funds and who can apply
Program Description
A commercial rebate program from FortisBC covering gas absorption heat pumps (GAHPs) for BC businesses, designed to reduce both energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil fuel heating systems. The program offers rebates on equipment and installation costs plus a feasibility study incentive to offset pre-project engineering expenses. Targets commercial, multi-unit residential, and institutional/industrial buildings in FortisBC's natural gas service territory. GAHPs use natural gas as a driver to extract ambient heat more efficiently than conventional gas furnaces, delivering multiple units of heat for every unit of gas consumed. Program is ongoing with no published intake deadline.

- Commercial, multi-unit residential, institutional, or industrial facility located in FortisBC's natural gas service territory in British Columbia
- Active FortisBC natural gas account required
- Must replace an existing gas heating system that is the building's primary source of heating (existing buildings only)
- Equipment must be a new (not used or rebuilt), air-source gas absorption heat pump meeting FortisBC's published technical specifications and efficiency requirements
- Apply online after the heat pump is purchased and installed, no later than 365 days after the purchase date or installation date, whichever is first; check that the model is rebate-eligible before you buy
- Feasibility study incentive available separately to offset pre-project engineering costs
- Must be a FortisBC natural gas customer on any rate class except Rate 1
- Must be the property owner or a long-term leaseholder of an existing commercial or industrial building
