How to Win

Insider tips, common pitfalls, and what successful applicants look like

Insider Tip

The two-step application process requires contact with the Clean Energy Intake Coordinator (CleanEnergyIntake@AlbertaInnovates. ca) before submitting to verify scope alignment — do this first before investing time in the SmartSimple registration. Projects outside Alberta must make a compelling case for provincial benefit; the Alberta value proposition section is evaluated critically. The March 31, 2026 intake is now closed; email the intake coordinator to ask about any planned future intakes.

Success Profile

An Alberta post-secondary institution partnering with an SME to conduct a $350,000 life cycle analysis of green hydrogen production pathways for heavy transport in northern Alberta, advancing TRL from 4 to 6 and establishing codes and standards recommendations for provincial regulators.

Premium See what successful applicants for this program actually look like.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications are evaluated through a two-step process: an intake form screening for scope alignment and TRL fit, followed by an invitation to submit a detailed proposal. Detailed proposals are assessed on technical merit, Alberta value proposition, project team qualifications, budget reasonableness, and alignment with the five eligible project categories. Projects at TRL 5–6 with clear feasibility or LCA deliverables tend to score well.
