How to Win
Insider tips, common pitfalls, and what successful applicants look like
Insider TipThis program has unusually low friction for a government rebate — the application is online at securityrebate. manitoba.ca and the documentation is straightforward (receipts + photos). Apply as soon as you have invoices and proof of payment. The $10M fund is shared with homeowners and tenants, so the business share is not separately reserved and could shrink quickly. Expenses from as far back as August 23, 2024 are eligible, so you may already have qualifying receipts in hand. Non-profits are excluded from the business stream — they must use the homeowner/tenant stream if eligible.
Rejection Pitfalls 6
- Business is home-based without a customer-accessible public entrance
- Business has more than 75 full-time equivalent employees at the location
- Applicant is a non-profit organization (business stream excludes non-profits)
Success Profile
Manitoba small business with a retail storefront, restaurant, or service location in a commercial area that has invested in or is planning to invest in security cameras, alarm systems, lighting, fencing, or protective barriers. Businesses that have experienced recent property crime or vandalism and incurred repair costs since August 23, 2024 are immediately eligible with existing receipts.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligibility verified against Companies Office records, documentation of eligible expenses, and confirmed business location with public entrance. No competitive scoring — eligible complete applications are approved.
