Program Description
A provincial grant for New Brunswick-based film, television and new media productions, offering up to 30% or 35% of Total NB Spend depending on budget size.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be an incorporated production company based in New Brunswick
- At least 50% of shareholders must be New Brunswick residents
- Company must be primarily engaged in film, television or new media production intended for public viewing
- Service productions, co-productions and projects with partners inside or outside New Brunswick are eligible
- Micro production stream is for budgets under $400,000
- Major production stream is for budgets over $400,000
- Micro stream: New Brunswick Spend must represent at least 25% of the total production budget; Major stream: at least 20%
- Micro stream: confirmed financing at time of application must equal at least 40% of total budget; Major stream: at least 50%
- Confirmed financing cannot include in-kind services or private equity from an individual unless proven by bank statement, and producer investment cannot exceed 10% of confirmed financing
- New Brunswick copyright ownership of the production must be at least 33% (this threshold does not apply to animation projects)
- The production must have at least one funding partner (funder, streamer, broadcaster or similar) confirmed at time of application
- Total production budget must be at least $25,000 and the grant request cannot be less than $1,000
- Rights must be secured, at least part of production or post-production (up to picture lock) must take place in 2026-27, and the project must be intended for commercial release
- No one production company (including sub-companies incorporated for specific projects) may represent more than 28% of the $7M LIFT program budget — a company cap of $2 million
- Ineligible genres include promotional or instructional videos, technical instruction and how-to videos, music promotional videos, sporting events, news, weather and current affairs, gala and award shows, and productions containing explicit sex, excessive violence, sexual violence or sexual exploitation or any unlawful matter
- Individuals, non-incorporated groups, licensed broadcasters, distributors, national film agencies and educational institutions are not eligible applicants
- Projects that have already received Tourism, Heritage and Culture funding for the same project or season are not eligible

Which LIFT stream does my production fall under?
It is set by total production budget. Under $400,000 goes to the Micro Production stream (up to 30% of Total NB Spend, max $100,000). Over $400,000 goes to the Major Production stream (25% base plus stackable bonuses to a combined 35%).
How much financing do I need locked down before applying?
Micro applicants need confirmed financing of at least 40% of total budget; Major applicants need at least 50%. Either way you need at least one confirmed funding partner, and your own producer investment counts for no more than 10% of confirmed financing.
When does the money actually arrive?
80% of the approved grant is released when you sign the contract, and the remaining 20% after your final report and financial reporting are approved.
What happens if my actual New Brunswick spend comes in lower than budgeted?
The final contribution is reduced. It does not go up if your actual NB Spend ends up higher than what you showed at application, so budget the NB Spend figure carefully.
Can one production company take a large share of the fund?
No. The company cap is $2 million — no single production company, including sub-companies incorporated for specific projects, may represent more than 28% of the $7 million LIFT program budget.
