Insider Tip

NOHFC does not require a pre-application consultation for the Launch stream (that requirement belongs to the Locate stream) — but its team is available throughout, and calling 1-800-461-8329 before you file will tell you whether your activity falls inside the retail/consumer-service exclusion and whether your project type is competitive right now.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about NOHFC INVEST North Launch Stream

Free
Can I apply if my business is a brewery or winery?
No — beverage alcohol manufacturing (brewery, winery, distillery, cidery) is explicitly excluded from eligibility.
What's the typical award amount for a new business?
$75,000-$150,000 for most projects; $200,000 maximum is rare and requires significant capital investment and job creation.
Do I need to be incorporated to apply?
NOHFC publishes no incorporation requirement — eligibility is stated as businesses starting up operations in Northern Ontario, and NOHFC's FAQ explicitly welcomes converting a hobby-business into a full-time venture. The business must have been operating 6 months or less at application time and the owner must work at it full-time. Confirm your structure with a NOHFC advisor at 1-800-461-8329.
How long does the application take to complete?
The document list sets the pace: a detailed business plan with market analysis, three years of financial projections, an itemized project budget with supplier quotes, a job creation plan with FTE commitments, and proof of your 15% personal equity. The equity proof — a bank statement or line of credit commitment letter — is the piece applicants most often leave to last, and it slows the review.
Can I stack this with FedNor or Starter Company Plus?
Yes — FedNor and Starter Company Plus stack within the 50% combined government funding cap. Verify provincial caps for Starter Company Plus.
