What this program funds and who can apply
Program Description
Supports food and agriculture businesses and other public and private organizations in the North through three streams: Support to Businesses and Entrepreneurs (starting or expanding food production, processing and distribution), Support to Northern Food Systems and Ecosystems (strengthening local and regional food supply chains), and Support for Northern Food Innovation (innovative technologies and approaches to food systems). Projects addressing food security in Indigenous communities or with other vulnerable people are given priority.
Eligibility Requirements
- Open to food and agriculture businesses as well as other public and private organizations
- Eligible applicants include not-for-profit groups, academic institutions, industry associations, local or Indigenous governments, for-profit businesses, and provincial and territorial governments
- Eligible activities must strengthen northern food systems, improve local food production, reduce barriers to food access, provide skills training and capacity building for local and Indigenous food producers, or focus on innovation
- Priority is given to projects addressing food security in Indigenous communities or with other vulnerable people
- Emphasis on Inuit Nunangat (Inuvialuit Settlement Region, Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut); CanNor's $9M envelope serves all regions in the territories
