What this program funds and who can apply
Program Description
Tourism PEI fund that helps non-profit organizations research, develop and bring to market new cultural tourism products that strengthen Prince Edward Island's appeal as a cultural tourism destination. It does not cover ongoing marketing, operations or staffing, and Tourism PEI publishes no funding cap.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be a non-profit. Tourism PEI lists two eligible applicant descriptions: 'a non-profit developing tourism events' and 'a non-profit theatre (minimum of 150 seats)'. The page presents these as an unpunctuated bulleted list and never states whether they are alternatives or must both be true — confirm which reading applies to you with the program contact before you invest time in an application.
- The project must be the research, development or market launch of a NEW cultural tourism product — the fund is not for running an existing offering.
- The project must develop or enhance products identified in the PEI tourism strategy and strengthen Prince Edward Island's appeal as a cultural tourism destination.
- The fund does not assist the ongoing marketing or operational needs of organizations, including staffing.
- Applicant must submit a concept development plan designed for incremental growth, with a focus on growing event-based revenue from sources outside government — investments are made on a declining scale.
- Applicant must supply research and a return-on-investment analysis that justifies public sector support.
- Applicant must supply a detailed financial plan showing private sector and community support and incremental sustainability.
- For major festivals and events, the application must show the new event's potential to attract significant off-Island visitation, including an estimate of off-Island and on-Island visitation and the methods used to track it.
- The project should extend visitor length of stay, especially in non-peak visitation periods.
- The project must involve community tourism partners, both non-profit and private sector, through sponsorship, donations and volunteerism.
- The application must set out the proposed method of project evaluation.
