What this program funds and who can apply
Program Description
SMEDCO offers secured, interest-bearing business loans and the Métis Assistance Program (MAP), a non-repayable grant, for Métis entrepreneurs operating in Saskatchewan. MAP currently has no funding agreement with Indigenous Services Canada, so only the business-loan program appears open to new applicants.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be of Métis ancestry — Métis-owned and Métis-controlled business (per SMEDCO: serves Métis entrepreneurs and Métis-controlled SMEs)
- Must operate a viable business based in Saskatchewan
- Business loans are available for starting, growing, or buying a business
- MAP is currently unavailable until an agreement with Indigenous Services Canada is signed

Funding Details
- Amount
- Varies. Neither the loan programme nor the Métis Assistance Program publishes a per-applicant figure. Note that SMEDCO's 2025 annual report states no MAP funding will be available until an agreement with Indigenous Services Canada is signed, so the secured, interest-bearing loan is the programme open to new applicants.
