Program Description

A custom energy-efficiency incentive for commercial electricity customers in Newfoundland and Labrador. takeCHARGE pays $0.10 per kWh of first-year energy savings, plus a limited-time bonus of $500 per kW of peak demand reduced, up to a maximum rebate of $100,000. Projects are tailored to the facility and can cover heating and cooling, refrigeration, lighting, controls and other electricity-saving measures. A high-level energy assessment by a takeCHARGE energy expert is fully funded.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a commercial electricity customer of Newfoundland Power or Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro
  • Project must reduce electricity consumption through tailored, verifiable energy-efficiency measures
  • A takeCHARGE energy assessment of the facility must be completed first — this high-level assessment is fully funded by takeCHARGE
  • The project proposal must be approved and a Project Development Agreement signed before the upgrade starts
  • Final incentives are paid after measurement and verification; if energy savings are less than 85% of the estimate in the project proposal, the incentive is reduced
  • The project must stay in service and deliver energy savings for a minimum of five years
  • Audit and feasibility-study funding must be pre-approved by takeCHARGE before the study is commissioned
  • Hydro commercial customers on isolated systems are served by the separate Isolated System Business Efficiency Program
