Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about Amber Grant for Women

Free
Can I apply if my business is based in Mexico?
No — only Canada or US-based businesses qualify. Applications from outside these countries are rejected immediately. Check "Business must be based in Canada or the United States" in eligibility.
What's the typical award amount?
$10,000 USD monthly; every monthly winner qualifies for one of three $50,000 USD year-end grants (announced in January). Realistic for small business needs like marketing or inventory.
Do I need to submit a business plan?
No — simple application with no business plan required. Focus on a compelling narrative about how you'll use the funds (e.g., 'I need $10K for spring inventory to meet demand').
Why do most applications get rejected?
Missing the $15 fee without a waiver request, a weak narrative about how the grant will be used, or not being at least 50% women-owned.
Can I stack this with other grants?
Yes — compatible with BMO Celebrating Women, Cartier Women's Initiative, WES Ecosystem Fund, and BDC Women Entrepreneur programs. Apply for all simultaneously.
Is the $15 application fee refundable?
No. The $15 fee is non-refundable whatever the outcome. If it is a hardship, WomensNet will waive it, but you have to email [email protected] and ask before you apply. There is no waiver option inside the form itself.
How do I pay the fee from Canada?
With a Visa or Mastercard. The form offers two payment options and the PayPal one is labelled US only, so a Canadian applicant uses the credit card option.
How often can I re-apply?
Once every 3 months at most. WomensNet's system refuses a second application from the same email inside that window, and the advisory board wants to see real progress before you come back, so re-apply only when something material has changed.
Does applying add me to the WomensNet email list?
Yes, automatically. Applying subscribes you to the WomensNet list, which is also where winners are announced alongside Facebook and the website.
