Program Description
Repayable business loans for Alberta-based, majority women-owned businesses with a clear business plan and defined use of funds. Loans go up to $150,000, or more through lending partners, with terms of up to five years and interest typically Prime plus 2% to 4%.
Eligibility Requirements
- Woman entrepreneur with majority ownership (50.1%+)
- Operate or plan to operate your business in Alberta
- Has a clear business plan and a realistic path to revenue
- Ready to invest equity and contribute to the business's financial health
- Needs capital to stabilize or expand operations
- Funds cannot be used for personal income or non-business expenses, paying down personal or business debt, speculative investments, or purchasing goodwill without tangible assets
- Evidence of personal investment of 25% is required
- Assets pledged as loan security must cover a minimum of 30% (real estate, a vehicle owned outright and less than 5 years old, or other assets with evidence of recent market valuation)
- Two years of financial projections (monthly cash flow, projected income statement, projected balance sheet) plus financial statements, or projections if not yet operating
- Supporting business documents including incorporation statements and by-laws, proof of insurance, proof of residency and identification, credit information for all applicants, and any licences or permits required to operate
- Operating and expanding businesses must also provide the last two year-end accountant-prepared income statements and balance sheets, plus interim statements if the year-end was more than 3 months ago
- Applicants attend a Loan Orientation Session before receiving part one of the loan application
- A 0.5% administration fee applies at the formal (part two) application stage
