Insider Tip

Use the free Creative Export Navigator Service BEFORE applying — Canadian Heritage advisors will help you navigate program requirements and identify the right stream. The 50-page export plan is the make-or-break document for the Export-Ready Stream; it must demonstrate concrete international market opportunity with revenue projections, not just artistic merit. Also note the 3-of-5-year repeat funding limit — if you've received CEC three times in the last five years, you're ineligible, so plan your application years strategically.

Rejection Pitfalls 9

  • Weak or vague export plan — no specific target markets, revenue projections, or distribution strategy
  • Project lacks commercial viability — artistic merit alone is insufficient without export revenue potential
  • Interactive digital media project not combined with another eligible creative sector
