What this program funds and who can apply
Program Description
Canada's primary music industry grant program, delivering the federal Canada Music Fund through multiple streams for Canadian artists, labels, and music companies. Programs cover sound recording (up to $67,500/album), live performance touring, music video production, and artist development ($5,000). Open to Canadian commercial music artists across all provinces whose recordings are no more than 50% French-language (English, other-language and instrumental music may be eligible).
Eligibility Requirements
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or Canadian-controlled music company
- Must register a free FACTOR account and obtain a rated Artist or Company Profile
- Artist Development: you must have commercially released at least one track before applying, and you are not eligible if you released music commercially more than three years before the application date or have received more than $10,000 from FACTOR in the past
- Recordings can have lyrics at least 50% in English or in any other language, or be instrumental; recordings with more than 50% French lyrics are not eligible (they go to Musicaction)
- Artist Development: only artists rated General may apply, and previous Artist Development recipients are not eligible

The Artist Development program offers up to $5,000 for 75% of eligible expenses
JSR Single/EP50% of costs, up to $25,000
FACTOR will reimburse 50% of your eligible costs up to $25,000. This means you must incur at least $50,000 in eligible expenses to reach the maximum amount.
JSR Album50% up to $65,000
Financial support is set at 50% of eligible expenses, all of which must support the sound recording, to a maximum reimbursement of $65,000 throughout the 18-month term of the project.
Live PerformanceLesser of subsidy or 75% budget
Funding in this program is calculated as the lesser of the final subsidy calculation, or 75% of the total eligible budget; to the program maximum.
Songwriter Development75% of costs up to $2,000
FACTOR will reimburse 75% of eligible costs up to $2,000.
Artist EntrepreneurUp to $75,000 per artist
The maximum funding level per individual artist applicant is up to $75,000.

- Sound Recording: pre-production and rehearsal space rental costs of up to $500 (must be paid to third parties), studio time, production personnel, equipment rentals, and hired musicians.
- Touring and Showcasing: travel costs, hired musicians and crew, and conference registration fees;
- Marketing: publicity, ad buys, radio marketing, photography, graphic design; and
- In addition to third-party costs, FACTOR will recognize up to $500 in donated services from the artist or members of the artist band for professional services provided during the Artist Development year
