Program Description
Grant for exterior and select interior improvements to commercial properties in Hamilton's strategic commercial districts, Business Improvement Areas, and designated corridors. Covers a range of storefront enhancement and graffiti-removal costs for qualifying owners and tenants. Programs operate under the Revitalizing Hamilton's Commercial Districts Community Improvement Plan, which is currently under review in 2025–26 but remains active.
Eligibility Requirements
- Commercial property owner or tenant (with owner's permission) operating within an eligible Hamilton commercial district, BIA, or designated commercial corridor
- Eligible commercial districts include Downtown Hamilton, Community Downtowns, and designated BIAs and commercial corridors
- Proposed improvements must be to the exterior façade (and select interior improvements per program stream)
- Graffiti removal costs are eligible regardless of interior/exterior scope
- Public institutions and purely residential properties are not eligible

- Amount
- Matching (50-50) grant, tiered by street frontage: frontage measured at $400 per linear foot, to a maximum of $10,000 for frontages of 25 feet or less and $25,000 for a corner property. Properties in an active BIA may receive up to $10,000 more for artfully designed facade work or public-facing art. Interior improvements are capped at $5,000 of the total grant, or 50% of the eligible maximum inside an active BIA.
