Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about RBC Rock My Business Start-Up Awards

Free
Can sole proprietors apply?
Yes, sole proprietors qualify as long as they meet all other eligibility criteria (age 18–39, pre-launch or part-time business under $25K sales and under 30 hrs/week, completed workshops).
I used to run my business full-time but scaled back — can I apply?
No. Anyone operating a full-time business prior to July 1, 2025 is ineligible, even if the business is now part-time and under the 30 hours/week and $25,000 thresholds.
What's the typical award amount?
Fixed $10,000 per winner — no variation. All eight awards are exactly $10,000, no range or partial awards. Six are open Youth Entrepreneur Awards; one is reserved for an emerging Black entrepreneur and one for an emerging Indigenous entrepreneur.
When are decisions made?
Decisions are made after the June 26, 2026 deadline. Winners are typically announced in July 2026, with funds disbursed shortly after.
Do I need to complete workshops before applying?
Yes — both Rock My Business Plan and Rock My Cash Flow, completed within the cycle's window (July 7, 2025 to May 28, 2026 for the 2026 awards), or one of the in-person combined workshops held in Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa or Montreal. Completing them outside that window does not count.
Why do applications fail?
Most fail due to workshops not completed inside the cycle window, using the standard Futurpreneur templates instead of the award-specific Business Plan and Cash Flow templates (wrong template = not reviewed), a business exceeding $25K sales or 30 hours/week, or having run a full-time business before July 1, 2025.
