Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about SCAP - Advancing Agri-Food Processing Prog...

Free
Can sole proprietors apply for SCAP?
Yes, but only if they operate as a registered business in NB. Sole proprietors must have a valid business license and be classified as an 'agri-food processor' (e.g., not a restaurant or retail store).
What's the realistic grant amount for a $50k equipment project?
For a processor not involved in primary agriculture: $12,500 (25% of $50k). For a project involving a primary producer: $15,000-$25,000 (30-50% of $50k, at the department's discretion). Both categories cap at $50,000.
Do I need a pre-consultation before applying?
Yes — mandatory. DAAF officers shape applications to fit criteria and flag disqualifying issues. Cold applications are often returned for major revisions. Book one before starting your application.
Can I combine SCAP with ACOA BDP?
Yes — for capital projects, combined public contribution typically caps at 75–90% of eligible costs. ACOA BDP covers up to 50% of costs; SCAP covers up to 50% for producer-processors. Verify ceiling with DAAF officer.
Is retroactive equipment purchase eligible?
No — SCAP does not cover projects already started or equipment purchased before application submission. Applications must be submitted before purchasing equipment.
