Program Description

A small reimbursement grant from the Strathcona Business Improvement Association for its members in Vancouver's Strathcona BIA area (Gore Avenue to Clark Drive, Railway Street to Venables Street). It repays 50% of the cost of preventative security work, such as security lighting, shatterproof window film, gates, shutters or CCTV, up to $2,000 per property. Only commercial property owners and business tenants inside the BIA boundary can apply. Applications are accepted first come, first served from April 2, 2026 to March 31, 2027, or until the year's funding is used up.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a Strathcona BIA member in good standing who owns or operates a commercial property or business inside the Strathcona BIA boundary in Vancouver (Gore Avenue to Clark Drive, Railway Street to Venables Street)
  • Members are owners of class-5 or class-6 commercial properties inside the boundary, or tenants of those properties with a valid business licence
  • One approved grant per property for the program year
  • The property needs an exterior entrance directly accessible from outside (sidewalk, street or parking area); upper-floor businesses qualify if their entrance is directly accessible from outside
  • In a multi-tenant building, each business with its own exterior entrance can apply separately, and shared common areas can be a separate unit if the owner or strata applies
  • For building improvements, the property owner must be notified and agree
  • Applications must be approved before any work starts
