How to Win
Insider tips, common pitfalls, and what successful applicants look like
Insider TipTDAP is one of the most accessible and highest-value programs for Nova Scotia tourism SMBs — $5,000 in specialist digital consulting services with no matching requirement and a straightforward application. The good standing requirement with the NS Provincial Registry is critical — check your status before applying (common pitfall for small operators). Applicants whose digital needs align with extending the tourism season (year-round booking, online reservation systems, shoulder-season content) have a competitive advantage. Tourism operators who plan to also apply for RADIATE should apply to TDAP first — improved digital presence directly supports RADIATE package marketing effectiveness. AI chatbots, automated booking systems, and e-commerce integrations are now eligible services, reflecting the 2026 expansion of the eligible service list.
Rejection Pitfalls 6
- Business is not listed (or planning to list) on NovaScotia.com
- Business is not in good standing with the NS Provincial Registry of Joint Stock Companies
- Digital need is vague or the requested services are out of scope
Success Profile
Nova Scotia tourism business (accommodations, activity operator, cultural attraction, restaurant, guided tour company) with an existing operation and a clear digital gap. Ideal applicants: operators without a professional website or online booking system; businesses with weak social media or SEO presence; operators wanting to add e-commerce or AI chatbot capabilities. First-time TDAP applicants with a specific, well-defined digital project are most competitive.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications are evaluated on: (1) clarity and specificity of the digital need; (2) commitment to enhancing online presence; (3) alignment with Tourism Nova Scotia priorities (year-round operations, season extension); (4) first-time applicant status (preference) or demonstrated additionality for returning applicants; (5) equity and diversity considerations (Mi'kmaw and African Nova Scotian businesses receive priority). Delivered in partnership with Digital Nova Scotia.
