How to Win

Insider tips, common pitfalls, and what successful applicants look like

Premium
Insider Tip

TDAP is one of the most accessible and highest-value programs for Nova Scotia tourism SMBs — $5,000 in specialist digital consulting services with no matching requirement and a straightforward application. The good standing requirement with the NS Provincial Registry is critical — check your status before applying (common pitfall for small operators). Applicants whose digital needs align with extending the tourism season (year-round booking, online reservation systems, shoulder-season content) have a competitive advantage. Tourism operators who plan to also apply for RADIATE should apply to TDAP first — improved digital presence directly supports RADIATE package marketing effectiveness. AI chatbots, automated booking systems, and e-commerce integrations are now eligible services, reflecting the 2026 expansion of the eligible service list.

Rejection Pitfalls 6

  • Business is not listed (or planning to list) on NovaScotia.com
  • Business is not in good standing with the NS Provincial Registry of Joint Stock Companies
  • Digital need is vague or the requested services are out of scope

Success Profile

Nova Scotia tourism business (accommodations, activity operator, cultural attraction, restaurant, guided tour company) with an existing operation and a clear digital gap. Ideal applicants: operators without a professional website or online booking system; businesses with weak social media or SEO presence; operators wanting to add e-commerce or AI chatbot capabilities. First-time TDAP applicants with a specific, well-defined digital project are most competitive.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications are evaluated on: (1) clarity and specificity of the digital need; (2) commitment to enhancing online presence; (3) alignment with Tourism Nova Scotia priorities (year-round operations, season extension); (4) first-time applicant status (preference) or demonstrated additionality for returning applicants; (5) equity and diversity considerations (Mi'kmaw and African Nova Scotian businesses receive priority). Delivered in partnership with Digital Nova Scotia.

Application Steps

1 Confirm NovaScotia.com listing and good standing Verify your business is listed on NovaScotia.com (or apply for listing within 7 days). Confirm good standing with the NS Provincial Registry of Joint Stock Companies — search your business name at beta.novascotia.ca/registry.
2 Define your specific digital need Identify the single most impactful digital project to pursue: new website, online booking integration, SEO overhaul, social media strategy, or e-commerce setup. Be specific — applications with clear, defined digital needs score higher than general 'improve our digital presence' requests.
3 Complete and submit the online application Submit the application at tourismns.ca/tourism-digital-assistance-program by the April deadline (2026–27 closed April 16, 2026; 2027–28 intake expected April 2027). Municipalities, chambers, and regional tourism organizations use the separate application track.
4 Selection and consultant matching Tourism Nova Scotia reviews applications and notifies selected businesses within 4–6 weeks of the deadline. Selected operators are matched with a qualified digital consultant from Digital Nova Scotia's approved consultant network.
5 Receive consultant services Work with your matched digital consultant to complete the agreed scope of work within the $5,000 allocation. Tourism Nova Scotia pays the consultant directly — operators receive the services, not cash. Provide outcome feedback at program conclusion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions founders most often ask about TDAP

Free
Do I receive $5,000 in cash from TDAP?
No — TDAP is an in-kind program. Tourism Nova Scotia pays a qualified digital consultant directly on your behalf. You receive up to $5,000 worth of consultant time and expertise, not a cash payment.
Do I need to be listed on NovaScotia.com to apply?
Yes — you must be listed on NovaScotia.com or commit to applying for a listing within 7 days of your TDAP application. NovaScotia.com is the provincial tourism directory; being listed there is a baseline requirement.
Can I apply for TDAP if I've used the program before?
Yes — past participants can reapply, but must clearly demonstrate how new services build on prior work rather than repeat the same scope. First-time applicants receive preference in the selection process.
What digital services are eligible?
Website design and development (including AI chatbots), social media planning, SEO, digital marketing strategy, photography/videography for content, copywriting, data analytics, digital branding, e-commerce, and online booking systems. Digital advertising spend (media buying) is not eligible.
When is the next TDAP intake?
The 2026–27 cycle closed April 16, 2026. The next intake is expected in spring 2027. Subscribe to Tourism Nova Scotia's industry newsletter at tourismns.ca to be notified when applications open.
